the process

Cora Primavera was the first ritual-manifesto performance by the company, with a total running time of 130 minutes.

During the process of staging and touring Cora, we received several opportunities that required drastically shortening the show’s length — some invitations limited us to 60-minute performances. This occurred in the venues listed in the historical section below.

Faced with that challenge, we created a condensed version of Cora Primavera, building a script composed of all the show’s songs along with its essential poems and passages. That’s how Cantata for Love emerged, which premiered at the closing of ETU (University Theater Gathering) in 2018 — also marking a warm prelude to Cora’s official premiere.

Each presentation was performed with a different lineup, so we’ve kept all technical information available on the Cora Primavera page for reference.

Cantata for the Spring can be performed with a live band and a hybrid cast, not bound to the full dramaturgical structure of the original performance.

synopsis

Cantata for the Spring is Santa Companhia’s short ritual-manifesto performance, built from the songs of Cora Primavera. From visible and invisible realities, this musical artistic occupation brings to light the tensions between times, generations, and genders. In a public feast, we digest the sacred and the profane, taboo and totem, body and representation — manifesting life as possibility.
