June 13th, 2015
In June, we reached our fifth Thoughtful Saturday, departing from the theme FAUNA.
The animal side of humans.
Or the human side of animals?
Animal exploitation and slavery: speciesism.
The performances focused on:
A feline perspective on human objects.
The relationship between Kafka’s literature and poetics with the theme.
The enslavement and commodification of animals in the contemporary world.
SLAUGHTER´GOLD
The Egg from Thoughtful Saturday I,
hatched in the square,
was now hatching in cu-áca.
Fauna at the Finissage.
Artists gathered.
Waiters on standby.
Food truck at the door.
And a plan upended by the expected.
What marked this final Thoughtful Saturday
was its role as an event within an event.
At Benedito Calixto Square:
veterinarians and animals
interviewing
drunken passersby.
At Verve, a packed gallery,
two cantata spaces:
First floor:
The dog,
the cat,
and Kafka for cockroaches.
Second floor:
SLAUGHTERHOUSE
+18
4 stations of slaughter:
Makeup testing on animals.
Cow feeding and glimpses of its bodily dismemberment.
The HEN laid its Egg —and in the Egg, the unEgg-ing of all excessive purging.
BroWn Egg laid, human gOld unEgg-ed.Pig slaughter.
Self-service on a charcuterie board and chicken breasts // filet mignon grilled on the spot.
The finissage ended with retching,
a humanimal stench of dung,
the birth of a language within the company,
and the end of the partnership.
Thoughtful Saturday is a production by Santa Companhia and Verve Gallery, fostering a dialogue between visual and performing arts through performances held every first Saturday of the month, cyclically or linearly. The process begins with porosity: we visit the gallery a month prior and devour the exhibited works for inspiration.
Thoughtful Saturday V: Fauna was made in partnership with ARQMATE and Small World.
